It has been a while since I updated the blog. I thought I would let everyone know how things were going.

I am hard at work with 1.2 of the software and it is coming along nicely.  The goal of the 1.2 upgrade is to give you the ability to assign a payment type to a specific expense. The program will have 6 different payment types that you can customize as you like. The program provides for reasonable defaults but they can be anything you want them to be. I will include Cash, Check, Debit Card and 3 additional credit cards. These represent 6 different payment types that you may change the name to anything you wish. It will not matter to the software, as they will all be treated the same way.

I intend to then extend the expense-reporting feature to add additional information in the general report showing how each item is paid for. Then my plan is to either extend the basic report to include a section showing expenses sorted by the payment type or give the program the ability to create a second report type. I am not quite sure yet my plan on this so if you have input on how the expense report should look I would appreciate it. One of the big areas that is getting a lot of work is infrastructure related. I have had to spend time building a new sub-system for keeping track of program preferences that includes customization of the payment types table. I am planning for 1.2 to add a few preferences options. Here they are:

Mileage Detail

With this feature enabled the program will prompt you for odometer readings instead of the current system of miles travelled. I am going to keep the old system in place for those who find it adequate for their needs.

Allowance Per Mile/Kilo

You will be able to enter the amount you are allowed per mile by your company. This will be the default amount placed in the field when you add a mileage expense.

Other Changes

I am going to look into making it easier to enter negative numbers in the calculator.
