JetSet Update & Personal Note
Tuesday, 01 February 2011
Greetings.. It has been a long time since I updated the site and for this I apologize. Many of you have sent email to me and I have dutifully replied to each. The question many ask is "Is Jetset being developed further?"

The answer is absolutely. In fact I am looking for beta testers now as I am getting close to release with a new version.

Here is what I have been doing to the product.

1. I have re-written most of JetSet. This rewrite has resulted in the software now being compatible with iOS 4.2 (soon 4.3). The benefit is that JetSet has full support for multitasking on iOS.

2. I have added support for email attachments for expense reports. No longer do you need to cut/paste the expense report from the email body.

3. You now have control over how expense report files are delimited. You can select comma or tabbed within the software. Further you can set a default email account for expense reports to be emailed to.

4. I have cleaned up a lot of the user interface so that fonts render nicely.

5. I have re-written the phone/web database for airlines, hotels and car rental companies. You will be able to submit your favorites (so everyone can benefit) and add them to your own phone.

But what about multiple currency support?

Well that is what I need beta testers for--I am close to releasing a beta with this functionality in place. Here is how it is going to work and I believe it to be a unique approach not done by others. You will be able to set the base currency that the software will use by default (of course it will figure it out if you don’t want to set it). You will be able to override the currency base support when you create a new expense report. You will be able to set a currency per expense item as well. This will allow you to use the application in nearly every country in the world--no matter where you are based. The report generated will have each expense with the original amount you paid and the converted amount based on the exchange rate you enter. (I may add support for downloading exchange rates but in my experience this is not necessary as you rarely get the exchange rate the bank does and don’t you want every penny back you paid?)

I also intend to support DropBox very soon. This will give you the ability to save your expense reports directly to disk so that you do not have to email or upload anything.  This will finally give me a reasonable answer to the photo receipts--you will not have to fight email servers that will not let you have large attachments—my primary reason for never supporting this.

Finally.. I know it has been a while. Believe me I have seen the ugly reviews on the App Store. I have had to be on hiatus for a while for personal reasons.

Oh.. and iPad.. yeah. that is coming too!

If you are interested in beta testing (you do not need to purchase the software to beta test) please drop an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it I can only take 50 or so testers so once the slots are gone.. They’re gone.

Everyone else.. Stay tuned. I fully intend to take back my rightful position on the App Store!

JetSet Development Update
Tuesday, 02 March 2010

I wanted to let everyone know that JetSet 1.3 development is continuing. There was a hiatus caused by some personal events in my life. Now I am working toward a 1.3 release that has a number of new items.

This update fully supports the v3 iPhone SDK and has built in email support. This means that you will no longer have to exit the application to email your expense reports. Also you will no longer need to copy and paste the expense report from the body of an email. Instead you will see an attachment with the expense report encoded in the CSV format. This should make importing easier. I am also going to give you the option to set the type of CSV file created--either tab or comma delimited. This should help some who have had problems with TAB characters being removed from the expense report.

What about currency support? Well I have done a lot of the work but I may put that into 1.4 so that I can get 1.3 out faster. We will see. Things have gone well this last week with the 1.3 release. I am close to releasing the beta now to the internal testing group. If you are interested in being a tester (and you don't mind a crash or two while we get the bugs ironed out) send me an email to support.

Thanks everyone for being patient. JetSet is far from dead.
