More progress!

 I have JetSet Expenses now logging into Google Docs using the latest API. It is different than before in that you no longer need to go into setup within JetSet and add the account information. What happens now is when you start your upload the app will attempt to log in. If it cannot it will present you with the Google login screen that they provide via the web. You will enter your username and password (this is NO longer stored within the App) and you you will give JetSet Expenses permission to access your account.

 A much better user experience for sure and safer too.

 I am not quite ready for beta on this feature but since I also have updated the software for iOS 5 support I am looking for additional beta testers. I am now using TestFlight which is an awesome easy way to distribute beta applications for the iphone. You just click this link and download TestFlight from the App store (free) and when there is an update you will be notified and you use the app on your device to download the update. Easy!

 I want to update everyone on the status of JetSet Expenses 2.0 and where things are. 

 I was so close to hitting the submit button to Apple as everything was looking great. The bug reports had gone down to zero and I was just looking to test it a bit more before I submit. 

Then iOS 5 shipped which I knew was close but it happened much quicker than expected.  Then Google happened where they updated their security for login and updated the APIs. So now the application was not running properly on iOS 5 and Google was broken. I posted here earlier saying it was Google's problem and I was hoping the issue would go away. In fact in the past that is exactly the resolution--just wait.

 So I worked on the iOS 5 issues and ended up getting things up and running on iOS 5 (without Google). When the issue with Google did not go away I did the research and found out that hte APIs I am using are outdated and that in fact it was my fault (according to the Google support forums) for not following the development of their APIs closer. They claimed that the API was updated a year ago and that I should have somehow knew this. Anyway--now I am working on getting it integrated. One thing I will say about Google and their code projects is this--they are not for the feint of heart. The documentation is lousy (and out of date!) and worse there are missing files from their latest distribution.

 I am now working with Google to resolve the issues and rewrite the Google docs connectivity using their updated SDK. If I can make some progress over the next week and get the feature back I will do one more round of testing and then submit. If it continues to the epic battle it has been for the last couple of weeks I will pull the feature and work on it for an update.

So that is the status.. it is coming along.. but slowly.

We are pleased to announce that we are feature complete with the new version of JetSet Expenses. Version 2.0 brings a number of new features:

Multiple Currency support
Support for multiple base currencies per expense report
- Exchange Rate Conversion Calculator
- Global default base currency
- Exchange Rate caching so that new expense reports can take advantage of exchange rates that you may have added by hand or looked up using the built in Exchange Rate look up feature
- Global Totaling where you can see the total monies that are owed to you in your chosen base currency regardless of the base currency used in any of your expense reports

Output in CSV formats -- with users being able to specify the output format.
Miscellaneous Expenses can now be viewed from the main menu
Completely redesigned Travel Database UI (Rental Cars, Hotels and Airlines)
Improved Email Support with attachments
Completely re-written using Apple’s Core Data technology, application no longer has a limit as to the number of expense reports it can handle.
Updated UI with a new look for the calculator
Currency Exchange fee type expense has been added
Multitasking support

Bug fixes:
Date Editor no longer will let you select start and end dates that do not make sense
Calculator improvements & fixes
Automatic start / end date for report will now correctly figure out when you add an expense to before the registered start or end date and move the start or end date appropriately.

We are now going to enter final beta status with the testers giving us the nod as to when the product is ready.

It has been a long time coming -- but the new JetSet Expenses is really cool and we think you will enjoy it.
