JetSet 1.1 in final testing
Thursday, 11 September 2008

I am pleased to announce that we are in our final testing of  JetSEt v1.1  If all goes well tomorrow we will submit to Apple the 1.1 update to JetSet. Here is the list of new features and bug fixes:

New Features

-    Full Expense Reporting:  Now every expense type will produce a detailed listing of the detailed information related to the expense. This now makes it possible for you to produce a full physical backup of your expense report with all of your notes intact. Now don’t get confused and think you can restore this to your iPhone. Instead this is just a great way for you to get your entire expense report to either Google or into email. Further many accountants will appreciate the detail that is provided.

-    Usability improvements: Now when you hit the Back button from the expense detail screen your changes are saved. Many users asked for this and now with 1.1 it is done.

JetSet Update -1.01 Becomes 1.1
Tuesday, 09 September 2008

ImageWell we are getting closer to release of the 1.01 update—well actually now the 1.1 update! We are doing a lot of testing as we do not want any missteps, as the world appears to be watching! ☺

The reason I am moving the version to 1.1 is that I am expanding on the reporting feature for this release.  I just finished adding all expense types to the detail reporting to the application. Now you can export your report either via email or Google Docs and have all of the details of every expense entry. Many of you have asked for this feature. I needed to get this done for the currency support that is in development so I thought I would just go ahead and finish it and release it as part of the maintenance update. It should make your life easier with the application.

The camera feature is alive again but we ran into a bug with the Apple firmware that causes image orientation to be lost when it is saved in an external file. We haven’t upgraded to the 2.1 SDK yet so the problem may be fixed there—if not we will write code around the bug. I’ll update you as Apple is planning its event today that might release 2.1 into the wild. If that happens I plan on moving to 2.1 before releasing the JetSet 1.1 update. That will require us to do more testing but should help us around some of the stability issues with the iPhone that unfortunately get blamed on 3rd party applications.

Anyway that is the update for now.  We really appreciate your patience—I assure you the update is worth the wait.

Camera issue FOUND!
Sunday, 07 September 2008

We have discovered the source of the crash with the camera feature in JetSet. We are rapidly working on a fix. We advise all customers to avoid the use of the camera feature until the next release is made available.

In short the problem is there is too much memory being allocated when there are multiple pictures being taken. For those interested the issue deals with how images are stored and in what format. We mistakenly used a PNG format when we should have used JPEG but additionally we discovered limitations that we had not intended. We are now doing extensive work to correct the issue now and remove the design limitation.

I’ll post more about the status of the 1.01 release as soon as I have more information.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

AppStore - Reader Beware!
Saturday, 06 September 2008
I wanted to post a copy of what I just posted on the AppStore for everyone here to read. JetSet appears to be underfire on the AppStore by its competitors. If you don’t believe me take a look at the now solid stream of 1 star reviews for the product.

Read my post and then I have further comments at the end.

JetSet Status Update (v1.01)
Friday, 05 September 2008
Greetings all,

I have shifted gears a bit and have decided to go ahead and release a 1.01 update that fixes some small things I have encountered and you have reported in your email. The 1.01 update will include the following fixes:

-    Updated help system that tells people how to delete an expense item or expense report. If you are visiting the site looking for this information simply look in the FAQ for the answer. It is as easy as running your finger from left to right!

-    Tried to reduce memory usage when dealing with the camera. Some users are reporting issues that taking pictures crashes the application. I have spent a great deal of time on this and had a situation where it was happening. What seems to be happening is that the iPhone OS is dumping the program with an out of memory error. The thing is—the iPhone is dumping in the middle of the Apple code for taking the picture. What is more interesting is that resetting the phone (hard reset holding the top button and the home button and NOT using the slider) resolves the problem. After this reset I was able to take 60 pictures in a row without a crash. Still the code in the 1.01 update is tighter and it might help the problem.
